You might hear our regulars call it “Skate Therapy,” and they aren’t joking. There is something unique about the combination of loud music, rhythm, and physical movement that clears your head in a way the gym just can’t. When you are on the floor, you can’t be thinking about your unread emails, your bills, or your stress—you have to focus on your feet, the beat, and the people around you.

Roller skating is incredible cardio. It gets your heart rate up, burns significant calories (upwards of 600 an hour depending on your intensity), and strengthens your lower body. But because you are listening to a DJ set and hanging out with friends, you don’t realize how hard you are working until you sit down to take your skates off and realize you are sweating.
It strengthens your core, your glutes, and your legs, and it drastically improves your balance and coordination. It’s exercise, but it feels like a party.
The Community Vibe The best part of Stone Mountain Skates is the community. From the Monday night regulars to the Sunday gospel crew, this place is full of people who support each other. You aren’t just working out in isolation like you would on a treadmill. You are part of a moving ecosystem.
You will see skaters teaching each other moves in the middle of the rink, helping someone up who fell, or cheering when someone lands a trick they’ve been practicing for weeks. It is a social outlet that gets you out of the house and moving. If you are feeling burned out or just stuck in a rut, come roll it out. It’s cheaper than therapy, and way more fun.
